
SUBEB BEGINS IMPLEMENTATION OF SBMC-SIP, AS PAUL EKPO DEMANDS EQUITY IN SELECTION PROCESS
Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB is ready to implement the 2019 School Based Management Committee-School Improvement Programme, SBMC-SIP which was stalled by the outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic, the Executive Chairman, Mr Paul Ekpo said.
The Executive Chairman made this known on Thursday, 6th May, 2021 during a Stakeholders’ sensitisation meeting held at Edinam Hotel, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.
The SBMC-SIP was instituted by the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC with the view to providing financial support to communities in the planning, execution and ownership of school level projects.

Paul Ekpo said only 31 projects have been slated for the state by UBEC. He said the relative scale down of the 2019 SBMC-SIP is as a result of the effect of COVID-19 on the economy.
This is against the total number of 67 implemented projects executed in 2017/2018 which resulted in 2,160 completed furniture and put into use, five renovated schools and three new structures erected.
Obong Ekpo noted that the projects were executed alongside other infrastructural constructions by the state Governor, His Excellency Mr Udom Emmanuel, whom he said is committed to ensuring quality education in the State thus, the undergoing recruitment of teachers to primary schools.
He also commended the governor for prompt payment of teachers’ salaries as at when due including commencing payment of retired primary schools teachers/ next-of-Kins.
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman has demanded for equity in selecting stakeholders to implement the project with a call on the stakeholders to participate effectively in good governance to secure and sustained meaningful education for their wards.
Similarly, Paul Ekpo implored villagers to collaborate with the stakeholders to safeguard the school development projects against vandalization.
