AKWA IBOM GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL SPEAKS ON CULTISM AND OTHER SOCIAL VICES

Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Research and Documentation, Mr. Essien Ndueso has enjoined Akwa Ibom students studying in various tertiary institutions to take their studies seriously and desist from acts capable of derailing their future. He particularly cautioned them against involvement in cult related activities, saying the state government frowns against such.
He gave the charge, Monday in his office at the Government House Press Centre, Uyo, while playing host to a delegation from the Students Union Government of the University of Uyo, led by the Deputy House Leader of the University’s Senate, Miss. Ruth Ekerette John, a medical student who was in his office to seek government’s support for their medical resource center project, an initiative of her office.
The Governor’s aide who is an Alumni of the University of Uyo and a former Director of Information of the Student Union Government of the University, described the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel as education friendly as seen in the many laudable investment the government has made in the education sector in the past 5 years.
Mr. Ndueso commended Miss Ruth John and her team for the initiative to have a standard medical resource centre and learning aids at the College of Health Sciences of the University, and assured of the necessary support by the state government.
“The essence of this visit is precipitated on the governor’s stand in the education sector. We have a governor who is investing in the education sector for the future, and i must commend you for deeming it fit to look for avenues to contribute towards your educational advancement and not engaging in frivolities”
“One thing that is worrisome is the endemic nature of cultism and other social vices in the society. We need our young people to know that politicians who use them to foment crises, engage in militancy, blackmail public office holders will not allow that young person to come close to their family. We need a platform where we can urge the young one’s to desist from behaviours inimical to the society”.

Earlier, the leader of the team, Miss. Ruth John, a final year medical student of the College of Health Sciences, University of Uyo while thanking the Governor’s aide for granting them the audience, said they were in the office to present a proposal to government on the needs of students of the College of Health Sciences, and expressed the hope that their request would be granted.
The leader of the delegation praised Governor Udom Emmanuel for repositioning the education sector in the state, and expressed optimism that their request would receive government’s attention. She listed the challenges faced by medical students in the university, and made an appeal for assistance to enable the students enjoy a smooth learning environment.
“You have been a great influence to the youths, especially in Akwa Ibom and vwe are happy we have someone we can look up to”.
She was accompanied on the courtesy visit by Daberechi Ihebuzo, and Nseabasi Mfon Isaac.
Also today, the Governor’s aide played host another delegation led by the current Miss Nsit-Ubium, Christiana Ukeme Ekpo who was in the office to solicit support for her pet project aimed at promoting girl child education and protecting them against societal ills that tends to threaten the female folks.
