Udo Ekpeyong, State PDP Chairman

Ahead of tomorrow’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries for Local Government election in Akwa Ibom State, the state chapter of PDP has reacted to social media reports that more aspirants has been screened.

In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Obong (Hon.) Udo Ekpenyong titled “OUTCOME OF SPECIAL APPEAL COMMITTEE HEARING FOR PDP CHAIRMANSHIP ASPIRANTS IN AKWA IBOM STATE” says that the final list of cleared aspirants of the chairmanship election stands.

“Following the recommendations from the Screening Appeal Panel that sat to review the litany of petitions brought by/against some aspirants, the Peoples Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom state, had on Thursday August 20, 2020 published the final list of cleared aspirants for the Chairmanship elections.”

Full statement reads

As a result of agitations by aspirants another Special Appeal Committee was further constituted headed by Uwemedimo Nwoko, Esq, to attend to all complaints arising therefrom.

Consequently, the Special Appeal Committee received thirty seven (37) petitions on the aforementioned cause, seeking the review of the final list and the decision of the first appeal committee.

At the close of hearing, the Special Appeal committee resolved as follows:

  1. That the arguments canvassed by the 37 Chairmanship aspirants who appeared before the Panel lacked merit and were wanting in substance.
  2. That the final list of cleared aspirants published by the party and the decision of the first appeal committee set up by the party was thorough and in compliance with the party constitution and therefore could not be altered or set aside.

The party therefore notifies all party members and the chairmanship aspirants that the final list of cleared aspirants published by the party on Thursday, August 20, remains valid for the 2020 Local Government Congress slated for Monday, August 24, 2020.
