The former Acting Chairman of the Governing Council of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, Samuel Edet, PhD, has advised the people of Ibesikpo Asutan local government area to stay at home and stay safe in the face of the corona virus pandemic otherwise known as COVID 19.

He said that the Akwa Ibom State government has put measures in place to prevent the spread of the virus and to contain it in the state adding that the onus was on the people of the state to adhere to government’s directives to assist government contain and control the pandemic.

In a message to Ibesikpo Asutan people, Dr. Edet said that although the pandemic was a global crisis, individual societies must adopt precautionary measures that suit their various environments insisting that staying at home was a major first step to contain the spread of the virus.

“In addition to staying at home, I call on the people of Ibesikpo Asutan to adopt simple hygienic measures so as to avoid contacting the virus”, he said. These, according to him, included regular washing of hands with soap using running water, use of hand sanitizers where necessary and social distancing as well as the use of face mask where necessary.

The former Acting Chairman of the Governing Council of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic used the opportunity to appeal to public spirited individuals, corporate organizations and the government to make palliative measures available to citizens to help cushion the effects of the lock down.

He pointed out that during the period of the stay at home, farming, trading and other forms of human endeavours would be adversely affected, but that such palliative measures will assist the people live through the period with minimum discomfort.

Dr. Edet challenged the people to consistently go to God in prayers and supplication stressing that with God on the side of the people, nothing was impossible.
