ESSIEN UDIM ELECTION: INEC SPEAKS ON SUBSTITUTION OF SEN AKPABIO

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Akwa Ibom State, has reacted to reports on the purported substitution of Sen Godswill Akpabio APC candidate to Hon. Ekperiekpe Ekpo for January 25th re-election in Essien Udim for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),
Akwa Ibom State, has of late, been inundated with enquiries as to whether
political parties can substitute candidates in the upcoming rerun elections in
Essien Udim LGA, scheduled for 25th January, 2020.’’
In a statement signed by HOD, Voter Education & Publicity, Odaro Aisien for Resident Electoral Commission, he further states that there will be no substitution or withdrawal ahead of the election.
The Commission wishes to restate that there will be no substitution or withdrawal of candidates who contested the 2019 general elections in this court-ordered rerun elections in Essien Udim LGA.’’
Recall that Sen. Chris Ekpeyong of PDP had won Sen. Godswill Akpabio of APC for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial Seat during 2019 election. Sen. Akpabio later reclined for reelection after Court of Appeal in Calabar annulled election Essien Udim because of election irregularities.
