LG POLLS: TOMMEY, MKPAH, OTHERS, RECEIVE FLAGS AS PDP INCHES CLOSER TO VICTORY

It was another moment of exhilarating feelings as people from the entire Eket local government area, thronged the cenotaph ground in the area to celebrate the candidates of the PDP in the local government elections, led by the Chairmanship candidate Mr Akaniyene Tommey.

The occasion was the official presentation of flags to the Mr Akan Tommey, his running mate Mrs Comfort Emmanuel and the 14 councilorship candidates, by the Chairman of the PDP, Mr Udo Ekpenyong, assisted by the former Governor of the State Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga.

Mr Ekpenyong who thanked the Eket people for always maintaining their fidelity with the party since 1999, said he was impressed with the caliber of candidates nominated by the people of Eket for the elections.

He charged the candidates to remain good ambassadors of the party and to work in line with the vision of the Governor for the state.

Receiving the flag, Mr Akaniyene Tommey said he and his colleagues were delighted with the massive show of support from Eket people on his aspiration.

“You see this flag that we have received today, we promise that we would hand over this flag to you with overwhelming result in 2023,” the chairmanship candidate assured.

He promised to work in synergy with the completion agenda of Governor Emmanuel, adding that his administration will focus on the welfare and well being of the Eket people.

The political leader of the area Chief Nduese Essien, Senator Helen Esuene and Hon Frank Archibong all assured that the people of the area were insured in the PDP platform and would deliver massively in the October 31 polls in favour of the party.

“As you can see, the other parties are tired of always losing and have decided to pull out of the entire elections. We are only using this campaigns to mop up all that remains of members in those non active parties,” Chief Nduese Essien said.
On his part, Otuekong Nkanga maintained that the party was a movement in the state, adding that future generations will come and see PDP as an ideology, just as obtainable in other climes.

The Chairman of Eket chapter of PDP Obongiwaad Emman Mbong said his people in Eket were worried over the seeming delay in projects embarked upon in the area, “but today we are seeing the progress at the Atabong bridge and we are happy that the projects will be completed on scheduled.”

The campaign ceremony also took place at Ibeno local government area, where the Chairmanship Candidate Chief Williams Mkpah led other candidates to receive their flags from the Sir Udo Ekpenyong.

Chieftains of the party, including the Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh expressed confidence in the ability of the candidates to perform to expectations.

The train was in Esit Eket, where the Political Leader, Elder Ben Udobia and the PDP family received the PDP state working committee members with assurances that the party will continue to support Governor Emmanuel and the PDP.

“Governor Emmanuel has proven to us that we in Esit Eket made no mistake in supporting his re-election in 2019 after first voting for him in 2015.

“The Governor has demonstrated good governance and we are going to ensure support to him even beyond 2023,” Elder Udobia, who is the Deputy Director General of the Divine Mandate said in Esit Eket.

Others who spoke included former House of Representatives Member, Barr Bassey Dan Abia,Jnr, the PDP chairman in Esit Eket Elder Eddy Etangkanga among others.

They lauded the council chairman, Mr Iniobong Robson who is the current ALGON chairman, and expressed the belief that he will consolidate on his gains in the area once re-elected.

The event on Tuesday was rounded off at Onna where the Chairmanship candidate, Mr. Iniabasi Ekanem also led other candidates of the party in the area to receive the flag from the party delegation, thereby signaling formal commencement of campaigns in the area.
