SENATOR EFFIONG BOB BAGS AN EXCELLENCE AWARD OF THE GRAND PILLAR OF SPORTS
Senator Effiong Bob, Fellow Chartered Institute of Arbitrators of Nigeria has been honoured as the GRAND PILLAR OF SPORTS IN NSIT UBIUM by Nsit Ubium All Stars.
The event took place on Thursday December 9 at QIC Primary School Ikot Akpanabia Ubium, Nsit Ubium LGA.
Speaking at the ceremony, Senator Bob expressed gratitude to Nsit Ubium All Stars for the honour done him. He said that everything one does is taken note by the people adding that he did not know that his modest contributions to sports development were noticed and appreciated.
In appreciation for the gesture, Senator Bob directed Comfort 91.5 FM to give live coverage to all outings of Nsit Ubium All Stars. He also promised to galvanize the women in Nsit Ubium to take part in football competitions as women are no longer pushovers in that area. He thanked Nsit Ubium All Stars for using football to foster unity within the Local Government Area. While emphasizing the need for all to key key into the peace agenda of His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel, Senator Effiong Bob admonished the youth to exploit the limitless possibilities embedded in sports even as they embark on rigorous educational pursuits. He noted that the role of sports in human development remains one of the key factors in stabilizing the polity and advised the youths to channel their energies into productive ventures so that they can have a secure future.
Earlier, the President, Nsit Ubium All Stars, Elder Ofonime Isong, said that Senator Effiong Bob was honoured for his dedication to the development of football in the local government area and beyond. He recalled that Senator Bob had singlehandedly formed, funded and nurtured a football club in his village which engaged the young people of the area and took them off crime and criminal tendencies. He had also distributed sports equipment to the three villages that make up Ubium North Ward 3.
Also honoured was the Member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon (Barr) Otobong E. Bob. Represented by his Special Assistant, Mr Anietie Akpan, Hon Barr Bob was honoured as the Patron of Nsit Ubium All Stars.
The Chairman of Nsit Ubium Local Government Council, Arc Iniobong Orok, was also honoured as the Patron of Nsit Ubium All Stars. The Chairman was represented by the Leader of Nsit Ubium Legislative Council, Hon Inyang Sunday.
Also at the ceremony were the Special Assistant to the Governor on Documentation, Mr Essien Ndueso, Bishop Joseph Okon, SA to the Governor on Project monitoring, Mr Ernest Akpan, SA to the Governor on Project Monitoring, a one-time Super Eagles player, Mr James Etokebe, the Councilor representing Ubium North Ward 3, Hon Effanga Patrick Inwang and other Councilors, the Ward Chairman, Mr Obot Sunday Samuel, the Akparawa One of Nsit Ubium, Mr Patrick Inwang, village heads of the three villages that make up Ubium North Ward 3, among other dignitaries
High point of the ceremony was a presentation of a trophy by Senator Bob to the President Nsit Ubium All Stars, Elder Ofonimeh Isong. The trophy christened, Effiong Bob Peace And Unity Cup, is to be competed for in all the ten wards in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
Senator Bob, who was earlier decorated and named the Grand Patron of Nsit Ubium All Stars by the Chief Patron, Obong Ukpong Obot also promised to help take football in Nsit Ubium to the next level.
There was a friendly football match between Nsit Ubium All Stars and Ikabia United of Ikot Akpanabia Ubium where the kick off was performed by Senator Effiong Bob. The match was watched by a mammoth crowd who came out to celebrate with Distinguished Senator Effiong Bob.
