Akwa Ibom North East 2023: Usenobong Akpabio says he is ready for open primaries

Ahead of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, delegate election holding soon, a former member of Akwa Ibom State Assembly, Barr. Usenobong Akpabio has indicated readiness to partake in an open primary to elect the party’s flag bearer for Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial Election.
Barr. Akpabio made this assertion when he played host to select media practitioners in his law chambers recently.
“I would want anybody who wants to contest for the position of the senate seat to come out and let’s go to the field, because I always like a situation that is open. There should be some fairness, lets submit ourselves to the delegates, let them choose who they want to represent them”.
Barr. Akpabio said as a committed party person, he supported the party despite losing out in 2015 and 2019 and has no option in such scenario.
“Once the party gives the ticket to another, as a committed party person, I have to support that person and the party. But there has to be some indices or some yardsticks for commitment”, Barr Akpabio said.
On the reason and expectations if elected, Barr Akpabio said he will make laws and empower his constituents
“I’m going to the senate to make good laws for Uyo Senatorial district, not just Akwa Ibom but entire country. I am well equipped to do that, I have been in the House of Assembly for 8 years, I don’t think I was found wanting, when I was there. Beyond making laws, constituents expect that you should influence a lot of things down here, like employment and empowerment”.
