SEE FULL STATEMENT
Our attention has been drawn to incessant protests and attacks against our son, Barr Mike Igini and the many calls for his redeployment as Resident Electoral Commissioner for Akwa Ibom state.
Since the 2019 general elections, the Urhobo Community in Akwa Ibom state have keenly observed these calls and vituperations against our son, who has discharged his duties as REC with all deligence.
Due to the renewed calls, we hereby state as follows.
1. That IGINI has maintained and displayed high level of integrity, character and courage since his days as students union leader in the University of Benin in Edo state where he defied all forms of corruption
2. That IGINI presided over the contentious election in various states of the federation such as Edo state in 2006 that midwife the change of baton from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party -PDP to the All Progressives Congress -APC, in Cross Rivers 2011, Anambra state in 2012, Osun state in 2014 and back to Edo state in 2015 just to mention few.
3. That the Urhobo Community in Akwa Ibom stands solidly behind our son Barr Mike IGINI and calls for immediate ceasefire in the ongoing attacks (verbal and otherwise) against him.
4. That the Urhobo Community in Akwa Ibom will not hesitate to go to any legal length to visit the full wrath of the law on anyone who insists on reigning undue attacks on our son.
That Barr Mike Igini should be allowed to do his job as resident electoral commissioner peacefully, until his retirement from the Independent National Electoral Commission – INEC.
We do not believe that the good people of Akwa Ibom state are allergic to truthfulness, fairness and justice of Barr Igini in discharge of his duty as Inec chairman, we advise those behind this derogatory and diseaseful act of protest to refrain from it now and we advise the good people of Akwaibom state not to allow themselves to be use by desperate politicians to the detriment of peace we all enjoyed in Akwa Ibom state.
