Barely few weeks to the political parties’ primaries and nomination of party flag bearers into various positions ahead of the 2023 general elections, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah has endorsed Barr. Usenobong Akpabio as his preferred candidate for Uyo Senatorial District Senate seat come 2023.
Obong Attah who is recognized and addressed as the father of Modern Akwa Ibom, who made the endorsement recently during a consultative visit to him by the Senate hopeful, noted Rt. Hon. Usenobong Akpabio’s antecedents during his years in the state parliament. He maintained that Akpabio’s superior performance in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has placed him far above others seeking for the position.

The Akwa Ibom elder statesman, while pouring encomiums on the Senate hopeful for what he discribed as effective and quality representation of Uruan people in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly between 2003 to 2011, expressed optimism that Usenobong Akpabio would make Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District as well as the state proud if given the mandate.
Obong Attah also used the opportunity to call on delegates whose decisions at the primaries will determine who will fly the party’s flag for various elective positions, not to be carried away by enticing packages to make wrong decisions, pointing out that the wrong made during the party primaries would have an enduring negative effect on the people. He advised them to nominate people with proven capacity and antecedents.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the endorsement, the leading aspirant for the Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District, Rt. Hon.(Barr.) Usenobong Akpabio thanked Obong Attah for endorsing him, saying that it was a great booster to his Senatorial ambition.
“It is true that I went for consultation and he endorsed me. I didn’t go for Obong Attah to endorse me but at the end of the day, he endorsed me and said to me, ” you’re going to be “my next Senator in 2023”, and started telling me what to do when I get to the Senate . It is quite true. Not something I’ve come to say this is what Obong Attah said, it’s what he said and I feel so humbled
Other people contesting for the same seat have gone to consult him and he openly told them that he has a preferred candidate. He has said quite a lot of things about me”, he added.
The legal luminary advised aspirants not to see election as a do or die affair, as it is solely the work of God to give positions to those He will.
“We have started the activities of 2023, and like I keep telling people, we are just doing our own part but what will happen in 2023 only God knows, but activities must continue and everyone is doing the best he or she can and putting himself or herself forward to be this or that, but if we truly believe in God and put our faith in Him and believe that He is the author and finisher of our faith, He will do His will.
He’s the only one who knows and that’s why for me I’m doing everything humanly possible to be what I want to be, but at the end of the day I have allowed myself, my desire, my ambition, my everything into His hands. And I believe that He alone will see me through”.
